Aaron Rice Sets World Record

He did it! The relentless backcountry skier Aaron Rice finished 2016 with a new world record under his belt. Aaron’s yearlong journey to hike and ski 2.5 million self-propelled vertical feet has come to a very successful end and we couldn’t be more proud of our sponsored skier.

Year after year Aaron has pushed himself to hike more vertical feet and ski harder, faster lines. Five winters ago he skied 75,000 vertical feet. The following year he skied 117,000 vertical feet. In the last three years, he’s skied 248,000, 447,000, and finally 703,000 vertical feet respectively in 2015. In 2016, his goal was to ski 2.5 Million self-propelled vertical feet and he did just that.

Aaron used an epix to collect all his data from 2016. It is equipped with auto-calibrating ABC sensors to provide relevant real-time information, a built-in altimeter that provides elevation data to accurately monitor ascent and descent, and a barometer to predict weather changes by showing short-term trends in air pressure. Aaron’s Garmin epix definitely pushed him to go higher and faster.
