Sun ‘N Fun Fly In a Great Success!

This year’s Sun ‘N Fun Fly-In and Expo proved to be one for the ages, as attendance and aircraft arrivals throughout the week were some the highest numbers ever seen. The weather was largely to thank, as most days yielded sunny skies and mild temperatures, providing a beautiful setting for a day at the airshow. Our booth was busy with activity throughout the week, as customers were getting a glimpse of our latest products, especially the popular GTX 345 all-in-one ADS-B transponder and brand new G5 electronic flight instrument.

In the aircraft display area on Thursday, our friends at Daher unveiled their latest version of the TBM family of aircraft – the 930. This single engine turboprop is an upgrade from the TBM 900, with most of the differences confined to the flightdeck. One of the most noticeable changes is the addition of our G3000 integrated flight deck in the new 930. The G3000 utilizes three 12-inch high-resolution glass flight displays along with two glass touchscreen flight controllers.

The weekend airshow provided fans a new experience, as Garmin ambassador Michael Goulian and fellow competitor Kirby Chambliss put on a Red Bull Air Race display that thrilled the crowd. With full scale inflatable pylons, dotting a mock race course similar to what they fly in the race circuit, both pilots pushed their aircraft to the limits. The performance provided a teaser to the growing sport, dubbed “The Ultimate Motorsport in the Sky,” which will host United States races in Indianapolis and Las Vegas this year.
