Garmin® announces integration with UnitedHealthcare Motion wellness program, enabling eligible plan participants to earn more than $1,000 in annual rewards

Garmin International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), today
announced the inclusion of the vívosmart® 3 activity tracker1
as a buy-up option into the recently expanded UnitedHealthcare Motion™
wellness program, powered by Qualcomm Life, Inc.

Offered to employers by UnitedHealthcare, a UnitedHealth Group (NYSE:
UNH) company, UnitedHealthcare Motion is an employer-sponsored, wearable
device wellness program that enables people using activity trackers,
including the Garmin vívosmart 3, to monitor progress toward daily
walking goals. Featuring an ultra-slim design, a hidden display, and
helpful fitness and wellness monitoring tools, the vívosmart 3 has been
helping users achieve their activity goals since its announcement in
April 2017.

UnitedHealthcare Motion Program enhanced by vívosmart 3

UnitedHealthcare Motion uses a set of activity goals called F.I.T.,
which stands for frequency, intensity and tenacity.
The vívosmart 3 enables UnitedHealthcare Motion program participants to
earn up to $4 per day by achieving one or more of the following F.I.T.
goals:

  • Frequency: Complete 500 steps in 7 minutes an hour apart, at least six
    times per day;
  • Intensity: Complete 3,000 steps in 30 minutes, at least once per day;
    and
  • Tenacity: Complete at least 10,000 steps per day.

“Garmin is excited to participate in an innovative program that seeks to
improve health outcomes and reduce costs for employers and individuals,”
said Cliff Pemble, Garmin president and CEO. “The customized F.I.T.
interface is a further example of Garmin’s engineering commitment to
providing flexible, frictionless experiences for its users.”

Program participants who wear vívosmart 3 will benefit from high-end
fitness monitoring tools like estimated VO2 max and fitness age, all-day
stress tracking, and a battery life2 up to 5 days. With a
water-rating of 5ATM, the vívosmart 3 is swim and shower safe3.
Thanks to Garmin Elevate™ wrist-based heart rate technology, the
vívosmart 3 provides 24/7 heart rate monitoring and automatically tracks
activity, sleep and more.

Earn financial incentives with vívosmart 3

The UnitedHealthcare Motion program rewards participating eligible
employees and dependents for meeting daily walking goals. The recently
announced program expansion will enable UnitedHealthcare Motion program
participants using a vívosmart 3 to earn more than $1,000 in Health
Savings Account (HSA) or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) credits per
year. To date, program participants have collectively walked more than
96 billion steps and earned more than $15 million in financial
incentives.

Studies show walking can be an effective way to help improve health
outcomes and reduce health care costs. A recent study showed that people
who walk less than 2,000 steps per day may have annual medical costs of
over $10,000; conversely, those who walk 8,000 or more steps per day may
decrease those costs to as low as $3,0004.

“UnitedHealthcare is collaborating with Garmin to enable
UnitedHealthcare Motion participants using leading activity trackers to
achieve their fitness goals,” said Sam Ho, M.D., chief medical officer
of UnitedHealthcare. “Adding Garmin to UnitedHealthcare Motion provides
consumers flexibility and choice, which can be important qualities in
successful wellness programs.”
