Garmin Alpha 200: New purpose-built, premium dog tracking and training unit

OLATHE, Kan./Media Alert – Garmin® International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), today announced Alpha 200, a new tracking and training unit for sporting dog enthusiasts. The new Alpha® 200 features robust mapping capabilities, a large 3.5” sunlight-readable touchscreen display, and customizable buttons for a user-friendly dog tracking and training experience.

“The addition of the Alpha 200 to the Garmin sporting dog family provides another premium dog tracking and training solution purpose-built to meet the requirements of Garmin customers,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “Building on the popularity of the Alpha 200i, we are pleased to offer the Alpha 200 for hunters who may not need inReach technology but still require the next-generation features of the Alpha series.”

With a 3.5” sunlight-readable touchscreen display, the Alpha 200 provides increased visibility in all conditions, day or night, and allows users to configure the unit to their specific hunting needs while displaying only the relevant information necessary to accomplish a task. Users can easily customize tracking and/or training functions through the handheld’s seven-button operation, providing fast dog training cues and adjustments. Thanks to the Alpha 200 “quick key” functionality on the handheld, users can also easily and quickly access the most important field applications based on their hunting preferences.

The Alpha 200 also provides robust mapping and dog tracking capabilities through multi-GNSS support, preloaded TopoActive mapping, direct-to-device BirdsEye Satellite Imagery, and Garmin HuntView™ cards (sold separately in the U.S. and France). Users can connect Alpha 200 wirelessly to the Garmin Explore app on their mobile device for additional dog tracking and mapping needs. Once paired, Garmin Explore will provide real time dog tracking information, and additional hunt insights such as track management, routes and waypoints, additional statistics, and hunt replay.

Whether using a traditional map view or the new pro view feature, a glance at the Alpha 200 handheld provides individuals the ability to help pinpoint up to 20 active dogs1 at any given time. To give the user the most information possible where they need it, the Alpha 200 smart dog list shows an easy-to-read summary for each dog including status, battery level, and other useful information. The Alpha 200 can store and share up to 250 dogs in an inactive state, so users who rotate different dogs or hunt with different dog groups no longer need to add or remove dogs in the system prior to a hunt.

Leveraging the power of Garmin’s ecosystem, Alpha 200 users can track their pack from their vehicle dash with Tread™DriveTrack™ or the Montana® 700 series – or from their wrist using Instinct®fēnix® or tactix®smartwatches through wireless connectivity. Alpha 200 users can track other dogs, or hunters – even those using the newly announced Alpha 10 handheld – when paired with a compatible Garmin sporting dog unit.

Using TT™ 15 dog devices, training modes include 18 levels of continuous and momentary stimulation, plus audible tone and vibration activated from the handheld. The effective range for tracking and training is up to 9 miles (depending on terrain), and battery life for the Alpha 200 handheld is approximately up to 20 hours.

The Alpha 200 comes bundled with dog device options and is available now for a suggested retail price of $949.99. Current customers with compatible hardware can add the Alpha 200 handheld for a suggested retail price of $649.99. The Alpha 200 handheld is water-rated to IPX72.
