Garmin® Introduces GHP™ 10V Marine Autopilot for Volvo Penta IPS and Sterndrive Joystick Systems

Fairline Boats Selects GHP 10V as Their IPS Autopilot Solution

OLATHE, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced its new GHP 10V Marine Autopilot System certified by Volvo Penta for use with all Inboard Performance Systems (IPS) and Sterndrive Joystick systems. One of the first OEM manufacturers to select the GHP 10V Autopilot is Fairline Boats, one of the world’s leading luxury performance motor yacht manufacturers.

“Garmin’s autopilot systems are known for their industry-leading performance, reliability, and easy-to-use. We’re confident that our new GHP 10V autopilot will be ideal for boat manufacturers installing Volvo Penta IPS propulsion systems,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “Combining these systems on board provides the helmsman confidence in any situation, and together, delivers the perfect cruising experience.”

The GHP 10V Autopilot System is approved for use with boats that have an integrated Volvo Penta IPS steering and propulsion system, and will feature Garmin’s proven and innovative Shadow Drive™ technology – a patented capability that automatically disengages the autopilot if the helm is turned, allowing for quick and safe manual maneuvers without manually disengaging the autopilot. The autopilot will automatically re-engage once a steady course is re-established. Boaters will cruise comfortably with Garmin’s autopilot that incorporates a rock-solid gyro-stabilized heading sensor for maximum performance and reliability in rough seas.

In addition, boaters will experience confidence and security from the GHC™ 10 Autopilot Control Unit that is designed to help boaters configure and control the autopilot. With an easy-to-read 3.5” color display, three soft keys, and a dedicated “standby” button, boaters will benefit from the simple, interactive interface, and can control the heading of the boat with the press of a key. Three GHC 10 controllers can be interfaced with a single GHP 10V, allowing autopilot functionality at a remote location on the boat.

Fairline, one of the first to select the GHP 10V as the autopilot solution, manufactures motor yachts up to 78’, and will fit standard Garmin marine electronics throughout its 2010 yacht range, including Garmin’s 15” touchscreen color chartplotters, high-definition radars and VHF radios in addition to the GHP 10V Autopilot.
