Garmin® Goes the Distance with Navigation for the Long Haul

OLATHE, Kan.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced the first portable navigation device designed exclusively for over-the-road, long-haul navigation and delivery trucks – the nüvi® 465T. This new long-haul navigator introduced at the Mid America Truck Show March 19-21, 2009, supports multiple truck profiles and features advanced routing and guidance to support truck-related road restrictions such as height, width, length, weight and hazardous materials. Simply enter the truck’s dimensions and load restrictions and the nüvi 465T will adjust many routes based on the customized truck profile and map data available to best meet the specified requirements.

“Garmin is excited to offer the first truck navigation product of its kind, and we’re confident that the nüvi 465T will change the way truck drivers live life on the road,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “Whether it’s helping to avoid a truck-restricted route or finding the nearest truck stop, this nüvi will help long-haul drivers reach their destination effortlessly while getting the most out of the journey.”

For the ultimate in convenience, the nüvi 465T is the first navigational device to provide locations in the National Truck and Trailer Services (NTTS) Breakdown Directory, a comprehensive guide to semi-truck repair facilities nationwide – including those offering 24-hour road service. With more than 30,000 repair and heavy duty towing services for the continental United States, this preloaded guide allows drivers to easily find truck-specific points of interest, such as truck repair, towing and recovery, tire sales and repair, glass repair, fuels stops and more.

The nüvi 465T also comes standard with subscription-free lifetime traffic alerts in most major metro areas nationwide from NAVTEQ Traffic, and will notify drivers of traffic delays and road construction so they may detour around the incident. This one-of-a-kind nüvi will also display warning information of upcoming road conditions to help aid driver awareness of possible truck hazards along the route such as sharp curves, steep grades, road narrows and more. For a clear picture of the road ahead, lane assist will guide users to the proper lane for complex highway interchanges. With multiple-point routing, the nüvi will even calculate a more efficient route between multiple stops. At any time, drivers can also access the “Where am I?” feature, and the nüvi 465T will display its exact latitude and longitude coordinates, closest hospitals, police stations, fuel stations and nearest address and intersection.

The nüvi 465T features a 4.3” high-resolution touchscreen display that is easily read from the driver’s seat of a long-haul vehicle. Preloaded with detailed, street-level maps of the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, the nüvi 465T offers a three-dimensional mapping perspective, or a 2-D overhead view, and displays speed limits for most major roadways. The nüvi 465T speaks street names so drivers will receive turn-by-turn, voice prompted directions, such as, “Turn right on Main Street.” For hands-free calling, the 465T also features Bluetooth wireless technology when paired with compatible phones. Drivers will also benefit from the automatic time zone transition feature that automatically sets the unit to the correct time zone.

The nuvi 465T has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $499.99 and is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2009. For more information, go to www.garmin.com and www.garmin.blogs.com. Lifetime traffic alerts extend for the useful life of the nüvi unit or as long as Garmin receives traffic data from its traffic supplier, whichever is shorter. Limitations may exist in the map data such that vehicle height/clearance, length and weight may not be accounted for in all route suggestions.
