National Mental Health Day

Take Care of Your Body and Your Mind

At Garmin, we talk a lot about beating yesterday and accomplishing your fitness goals. But we also know that your mental health plays a huge part in your overall wellness. Check-in with yourself today, and take some time for your mental well-being. Here are some tips for managing and improving your mental health:

Record how you’re feeling

For those of you using the menstrual cycle tracking feature, you can easily log any emotional and physical changes right in Garmin Connect and see the patterns over time. If you’re not, try journaling about how you’re feeling over the course of a few months. See if there are any trends you didn’t expect or specific events that triggered a certain emotion or mental state.

Get moving

Moving your body is a great way to help improve your mental health. Studies have shown that aerobic exercises such as jogging, swimming, cycling, walking, gardening and dancing can reduce anxiety and depression. And it doesn’t have to be hours and hours of exercise. Just find something that makes YOU feel good and do it for 15-30 minutes a few times a week.

Take on nature

A lot of us default to binge-watching our favorite shows when we want to unwind, but studies have shown that spending time in nature can reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. It can be as simple as walking through a nearby park or sitting in a green house. If your adventure takes you out in some sunshine, all the better. Just 10 minutes of sun exposure each day can help improve mood, work satisfaction and sleep.
