How Nutritional Consultation Is Advancing with the Garmin Health API

When it comes to eating well, staying healthy and physically active, there is no “one size fits all” — what works for others may not be the best fit for your body or lifestyle. Luckily, with the combination of the Health API from Garmin® and Laurel NutriLab’s upcoming Line@ platform, it’s possible to leverage wearable technology to have your cake and eat it too.

Eating Healthily and Feeling Well

Laurel NutriLab is a Taiwanese food company that focuses on health and balanced nutrition. In recent years, they have cooperated with the University of Medicine to conduct a clinical trial on the impact of protein intake, the outcome of which proved that daily intake must reach at least 1.2 gram per kilogram per person to maintain body muscle mass. Using this information, Laurel NutriLab designed the “Nutri-Soup,” a healthy combination of protein and fibre to sufficiently fulfil this required intake.

The next step is the Line@ platform. Where lifestyle and body information has been previously gathered via questionnaires, Line@ instead integrates with the Garmin Health API to measure fitness, biometrics and activity.1

Garmin wearables have long enabled users to find key information about their health and habits, from all-day health monitoring for an active lifestyle to the Pulse Ox2 sensor that measures blood oxygen saturation to stress and respiration tracking to the Body Battery™ feature to see the body’s energy levels throughout the day. These elements and more make it possible to make informed decisions about your daily life, using data that is unique to you. By inputting metrics such as daily calorie consumption, steps or walking distance as well as heart rate and exercise habits, dietary recommendations can be tailored to the user.

On the topic of the cooperation with Garmin, a Laurel NutriLab representative explained: “Garmin Health plays an important role in this service. With the Garmin Health data, we can quickly and accurately provide our members with personalized recommendations. Great thanks to the Garmin Health team for their assistance in providing this information, as well as their thoughts on extended functions.”

The Future of Food and Nutrition

The collaboration between Garmin and Laurel NutriLab means that with the Index™ S2 Smart Scale consumer body information can be obtained, including body weight, body fat, muscle mass, BMI, bone mass and more. With the data from Garmin Health API, users can plan their daily diet according to their personal goal, whether cooking themselves or eating out. This, along with Garmin wearables’ smart health and activity features, means that finding the balance is possible — for nutrition, lifestyle and overall health.
