Garmin® Introduces New Scanning Sonar Black Box

Garmin, the global leader in satellite navigation, has announced the GSD 25, a premium sonar module that offers traditional sonar, 1kW CHIRP, CHIRP DownVü and CHIRP SideVü scanning sonar for a versatile, all-in-one black box.

The GSD 25 is the ultimate solution for the boater or angler that requires both scanning capabilities and traditional sonar. Incorporating DownVü and SideVü, the clearest scanning sonar on the water, with true, dual 1kW CHIRP, the GSD 25 helps to provide a crystal clear image with excellent target separation and location without the need for multiple black boxes.

“Having a fully comprehensive view of what’s below your boat is important for anyone that’s out on the water,” said Dan Bartel, Vice President of Worldwide Sales. “No matter where you’re looking or what you’re trying to see, the GSD 25 provides vivid detail below and beside the vessel, along with the brilliant clarity associated with CHIRP. The GSD 25 encompasses the most beneficial sonar technology in one simple solution and will help make a day out on the water that much more successful.”

CHIRP has become a valuable tool when out on the water. Unlike traditional sonar that only emits a single frequency, CHIRP sweeps a designated range of frequencies, ranging from low to high. As a result, the return information is interpreted and since the continuous emission of frequencies provides a much wider range of information, CHIRP sonar is able to create a clearer, higher resolution image.

Paired with the newly announced line of scanning and CHIRP transducers, the GSD 25 acts as a great search and confirmation tool for everyone from the amateur angler to the professional sport fisherman. Compatible with the brand new GPSMAP® 7400 series and the previously announced GPSMAP 8000 Glass Helm Series, sonar has never looked clearer.

Available in Q1 of 2015 and prices will start from £749.99.

Garmin’s portfolio includes some of the industry’s most sophisticated chartplotters and touchscreen multifunction displays, sonar, high-definition radar, autopilot, high-resolution mapping, sailing instrumentation and other products and services that are known for innovation, reliability, and ease-of-use.
