Your Privacy Matters to Garmin
Our goal is to make sure you know how we collect, use, share, and store your personal data when you visit the Garmin Explore website, create an account, register and use your inReach device, subscribe to and use inReach satellite communication services, and use the Earthmate and Garmin Explore apps.
What data does Garmin collect?
We ask for personal data — such as your name, email address, location, and other information — so you can sign in to your account, receive personalized support, receive important safety information about your devices, and get the most out of our products.
When You Make a Garmin Account
Garmin stores information such as your name, email address, and password so you can sign in, and it helps us verify your account if you call customer support.
When You Get an inReach Subscription
The service you get when you purchase an inReach subscription is comprehensive, so it requires a little more information.
We process your phone number and email address so we can communicate with you and relay your billing information.
We also collect and process your mailing address, telephone number, and your chosen contacts' information. We need that information to help you use inReach products and services to communicate and contact emergency services, if needed.
We have a third party process your payment information, but Garmin does not store your payment card details.
When You Use inReach Services
Our inReach products and satellite communication services were made to help you send an alert in an emergency. In order to do that, we may need to store the location of your inReach device along with text, SMS, and email messages sent to and from your inReach device.
When You Sync inReach Products
When you sync your device, we collect data such as your IP address, sync time and date, and battery level to help identify and resolve errors or syncing issues and to provide better customer support.
When You Upload Activities From the Garmin Explore App
If you choose to upload recorded activities from the Garmin Explore app to your Garmin account, we collect data from those activities so you can view it and analyze it. You can even share it with others — but you don’t have to. Plus, you can withdraw your consent and delete activities at any time.
When You Contact Garmin
We know you want to stay off the grid, but when you reach out to us, we collect things such as your name, mailing address, phone number, email address, and contact preferences, as well as information about the Garmin devices you own — including their serial numbers, dates of purchase, and information about your subscriptions — to ensure you get the help you need.
Why does Garmin ask for your personal data?
From providing product support to offering better services, any information we ask you for is used to improve your experience.
To Keep You Informed
To Improve Our Sites and Apps
When you visit our sites or use our apps, we collect information — such as your IP address, location, times that you visit, and more — to let us know how people navigate our sites and apps and how we can improve them.
To Give You Information You Might Actually Find Interesting
We use things such as cookies, pixel tags, and similar tools to help us provide better, more relevant content on our sites. So, if you and everyone else are coming to our websites for awesome devices, we’ll know to keep making them.
We also use these tools to see how effective our ads are and to identify any problems that we need to fix. All in all, we just want to give you websites worth browsing.
Does Garmin sell your personal data?
No! We don’t sell your personal data to anyone. And we only share your personal data with others in specific situations.
Data Shared with Emergency Responders
When you trigger an SOS emergency signal, Garmin will provide relevant data to emergency responders and provide them with any information they might need to assist you.
Data Shared with Your Emergency Contacts
When you set up an account, you can add emergency contacts or family members to receive messages from and about you. Based on your settings, inReach may send them information.
Data Shared with Service Providers
