Go the distance with Forerunner 310XT

Garmin, the global leader in satellite navigation is pleased to announce its award-winning Forerunner 310XT fitness watch has been improved with a feature swimmers and triathletes will find invaluable.

The high sensitivity GPS is now able to record open-water swim distance and average speed. This adds another dimension to the already comprehensive training and race data on offer.  As well as the time, speed, distance and elevation profile for cycling, running and transitions in between sports, it also gives heart rate, cadence, and even power data when used with relevant sensors.

For triathletes this means they simply have to enable the swim mode and press start as they begin their swim. When they finish the swim they press the lap button and the Forerunner 310XT automatically processes a combination of the time and GPS data to give them the distance covered and average speed.

This means that, for the very first time, a triathlete can record the vital metrics for every aspect of their race, from the moment they enter the water to the moment they cross the finish line at the end of the run. All of this data can then be uploaded to Garmin Connect http://connect.garmin.com/  for in-depth analysis and review after a race or training session.

The Forerunner 310XT is waterproof to a depth of 50 metres and the extended battery life – up to 20 hours – means that endurance athletes can push themselves further than ever.

The new capability will be available as a free software update to existing Forerunner 310XT users. Visit https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=142, click on the Forerunner 310XT then ‘software’ on the right-hand menu.
