Garmin Tops Consumer Sat Nav Survey

Which Award sat nav 2009

Garmin’s new collection of nüvi sat navs has scooped a triple victory in the independent consumer body Which? magazine’s December 2009 Best Buy Awards. Portable navigators from seven manufacturers were on test, which found the full-featured nüvi 1490T “Best for UK and Europe”, the nüvi 1310 “Great for UK” and the nüvi 1210 “Accurate, cheap and portable”.

The Which? team assessed the sat navs against a number of factors including performance, versatility and ease of use. The extra-widescreen nüvi 1490T topped the charts with 73% with a special mention of its “good traffic avoidance feature”. The ultra-slim widescreen nüvi 1310 with Bluetooth for hands free telephone calls grabbed the silver. The portable nüvi 1210 won third place with its flair for pinpointing locations.

The Garmin nüvi 1200, 1300 and 1400 series are part of a family of sat navs with enhanced features ranging from a handy pocket sized 3.5-inch screen to a large 5-inch widescreen for greater visibility and larger buttons.

They are less than the width of your index finger, but they come packed with new features such as Pedestrian Navigation with CityXplorer™ maps compatibility, the ecoRoute™ fuel-saver feature, Lane Assist  and Junction View (on selected models). They also come with the “Where am I?” feature for extra reassurance. At any time, with a single tap of the car icon, drivers can display their exact location as well as the nearest hospitals, police stations and fuel stations.
