Garmin Hamble Winter Series gets under way
Garmin Hamble Winter Series – Day 1
5 October 2008
This year’s Garmin Hamble Winter Series that runs from 5th October until 30th November, has so far attracted over 200 entries for this premier Solent racing event. Following the successful start to the Hamble Big Boat Series on the Saturday competitors and race officials were looking to a great first day of main series racing on Sunday 5 October.
Sadly it was not to be with all racing cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. A complex weather forecast, combining strong winds with low visibility led to Race Director Jamie Wilkinson making an early decision to abandon. Competitors and race officials are now looking forward to more suitable conditions for the rest of the series. In the absence of results, the Race Day 1 sponsor Lewmar have kindly agreed to allow their prizes to be presented over weekend 3 of the series on 18/19 October.
Next weekend, the first racing in the SB3 Autumn Championships will take place. The Autumn Championships is a double weekend 14 race series for the Laser SB3 Class with the second weekend on October 25th/26th, that includes Sigma 38, Sigma 33, J109, J105, J80, Beneteau 31.7, Hunter 707, and Quarter Tonners.
Race Day 2 of the main Garmin Hamble Winter Series is scheduled for Sunday 12th October. In response to competitor feedback the 2008 main series will feature an additional race each day for all classes when the weather conditions allow, thus two races for Black Group and three races for White Group. It will be announced to competitors on the day if the extra race is to be sailed.
