5 reasons mountain bikers should use Edge MTB
Maybe you’re an enduro pro who is skilled at technical descents. Or maybe you’re new to mountain biking and trying to improve your confidence riding downhill. No matter what level of mountain biker you are, you need a bike computer that’s ready for any adventure.
Enter Edge® MTB.
Edge MTB was designed by mountain bikers, for mountain bikers. It’s a highly precise, compact and advanced bike computer for dedicated mountain bikers who want to improve their technical skills and speed on trails while better measuring their overall ride performance for downhill, enduro and eEnduro riding.
Here’s why you should ride with this Garmin bike computer on your handlebars.
1: Rugged, purpose-built design
The durable build features scratch-resistant Corning® Gorilla® Glass lens to stand up to extreme rides, while seven rugged buttons resist mud and grit. You’ll also get our standard Edge mountain bike mount as well as the new Edge top tube mount that comes with a strap and shim for flexible placement options on your bike, depending on your riding style.
It features up to 14 hours of battery life in demanding use cases or up to 26 hours in battery saver mode.
2: Increased precision with 5 Hz GPS recording
When you’re trying to improve your performance and track your rides, precision matters. Edge MTB is the first bike computer in its class with 5 Hz GPS recording. The technology behind the 5 Hz GPS records location data five times more frequently than other cycling computers. This helps you see your trail lines in greater detail while descending in enduro or downhill ride profiles for unparalleled precision.
Edge MTB includes an enduro ride profile so you can track the total ascent and descent from each run as well as your overall ride. It also features a downhill ride profile that automatically tracks a run after you finish a descent. Then it pauses to make sure your shuttle ride or ski lift to the top doesn’t affect your ride stats.

While in enduro or downhill ride profiles, Edge MTB uses 5 Hz GPS to record your location data five times more frequently than other bike computers.
3: Hit the trails with confidence with informative mapping features
Learn about the trail before you ride it with preloaded Trailforks maps on Edge MTB. Plus, Forksight model provides more information about the trails up ahead, including trail names, difficulty rating, distance, elevation and more. For example, Forksight mode could tell you if an upcoming trailhead is downhill only so you know you can’t ride that way.
And whether you’re on mountain, gravel or road, you’ll get routing suited to your ride. Remain confident you’re on the right track with turn-by-turn directions and alerts.
You can also use Trendline™ popularity routing to find the best routes that other Garmin cyclists and mountain bikers travel the most. With preloaded maps for every ride, you can navigate paved and unpaved pathways, streets and more.
Lost or want to go home early? Use the back-to-start feature to get back on track.
4: Dedicated training and performance features
Set timing gates throughout a course to track your splits in real time to see how well they compare to your previous lap or run. This can help you better understand your ride and performance in real time. When you preride or walk the trail, you can set up to 10 timing gates. After you ride, you can review your data for each run to get a better idea of how to improve.
With ClimbPro, you can better manage your effort during categorised climbs. See more information about the climb you’re riding, including its distance and grade profile, where you are in the climb and more.
Edge MTB will also track specific mountain biking metrics, including jump count, jump distance and hang time, as well as exclusive Garmin features such as Grit®, which rates the difficulty of a trail, and Flow™, which measures how smoothly you ride it.
With a compatible heart rate monitor, you’ll know how long you need to recover before your next high-effort workout. Combine Edge MTB with a compatible power meter and that heart rate monitor to access your VO2 max (a measure of your fitness) and daily suggested workouts (based on your current training load and VO2 max). You can even use Garmin off-road power meter pedals as a mountain bike power meter option that works for other types of riding as well.
Edge MTB can also notify you when it’s time to hydrate or snack with custom nutrition and hydration alerts.

With Forksight mode, you can view the names of trails up ahead, elevation profiles and more.
5: Situational awareness and tracking features
Mountain bikers can ride confidently with features and products that encourage a safer riding experience such as LiveTrack™ and incident detection1. With the LiveTrack feature, you can share your rides with contacts you have selected in the Garmin Connect™ app. This allows viewers to track your location and see where you are in real time.
Incident detection sends a message1 to your designated contacts with your live location if the device detects an incident. (Don’t forget to set up emergency contacts in the Garmin Connect app on your smartphone first). You’ll receive a message on your Edge device and paired smartphone letting you know the message to your contacts will be sent within 30 seconds, so you can still cancel the automated emergency message if you don’t need help.
Edge MTB is also compatible with inReach® satellite communicators2 as well as the Varia™ line of cycling radars and smart lights.
When you pair Edge MTB to an inReach® satellite communicator2, you can use your Edge to control features such as sharing location data and viewing and replying to messages. Your inReach contacts (which can be set up through the Garmin Explore™ app or the Garmin Messenger™ app, depending on which inReach model is used) are different from your incident detection contacts. inReach contacts can see your location and communicate with you even while you’re riding in more remote locations or outside of cellular coverage. In an emergency, trigger an SOS message right from your Edge to Garmin Response℠, our 24/7-staffed, international emergency coordination center, that can connect you to help if you need it.
For better visibility to drivers on busy roadways, consider the Garmin Varia™ RCT715, Varia RTL515 and Varia eRTL615 rearview radar tail lights, which can be seen up to a mile away. You’ll get visual and audible alerts for vehicles approaching from behind to help support your own awareness. The Varia Vue headlight camera projects a steady blast of up to 600 lumens to help drivers coming from the other direction see you from up to one mile away. It also records front-facing video in 4K (memory card required3; sold separately) and automatically stores the video on the device if an incident is detected.
