Garmin Enters Helicopter Market

Garmin is pleased to preview its upcoming range of helicopter navigation equipment, expanding upon the existing consumer avionics range that has become a benchmark for in-flight navigation worldwide.

The G500H is a glass avionics system designed specifically for VFR part 27 helicopters and has Helicopter Synthetic Vision Technology (HSVT™) and helicopter-specific databases, including additional low-altitude obstacles.

• Primary Flight Display (PFD) screen offers:
• Altitude
• Airspeed
• Vertical speed
• Altitude and course/heading information
• PFD can be either left or right hand facing
• Multi–function Display (MFD) unit to complement PFD shows:
• Detailed moving map graphics
• Chart data
• Navaids
• Flight plan routings
• Solid state Altitude and Heading Reference System offers rapid alignment and in-flight dynamic restarts
• Can be interfaced with Garmin traffic systems (GTS 800 series)

Also announced is a new Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System (HTAWS) for the GNS 430W & 530W navigation products. Garmin’s HTAWS provides graphical and audible alerts of potential terrain and obstacle conflicts along the user’s flight path.
