Garmin Run Club gets connected with Bournemouth Athletic Club

Garmin, the global leader in satellite navigation has chosen Bournemouth Athletic Club as the first team to participate in the newly announced Run Club scheme.

Garmin Run Club will provide a platform for sports clubs and associations across the world to develop a central point for storing training sessions, race results and most importantly club records.

Utilising Garmin Connect, Garmin’s online community portal, clubs and individuals will be able to review, replay, relive and share their training and racing, as well as search and compete against other Connect users for the coveted prizes of club records and personal bests.

Bournemouth Athletic Club now has it own portal on Garmin Connect and Club members can download training information and share it, not only between themselves, but with other running clubs worldwide.

Bournemouth Athletic Club Captain Jon Sharkey gave his reaction to the news: “We’re delighted to be the first member of Garmin’s Run Club. Bournemouth Athletic Club values the performances of each and every one of its runners.

“Garmin’s Run Club helps us to encourage our members and recognise personal achievement – we now display club championship results online and that helps everyone strive to meet their personal goals.”

Chris Merrell Garmin’s UK Marketing Manager said: “we aim to take GPS technology to the grass roots of sports. Garmin Connect and our range of both GPS and non-GPS sports watches enable runners to set a benchmark for themselves and others to follow.”

“We became aware of Bournemouth Athletic Club following the news of one of their member’s experiences with the use of his Garmin Forerunner watch.

“Steve Way went from being a kebab-eating, computer game lover to the fastest Brit in the New York Marathon 2008 – all in the space of two years. Steve was even 28th in the Flora London Marathon last year. In Steve’s own words the ‘club support and the technology of the Garmin Forerunner GPS sports watch are a winning formula.’”
