BlueChart g2® and g2 Vision® 2011, Now Available

Garmin, the global leader in satellite navigation, is excited to provide a new BlueChart update for the fast approaching boating season.

In a continuous effort to keep marine charting the most up-to-date, Garmin is pleased to announce worldwide coverage availability for the updated 2011 format for BlueChart g2 and g2 Vision, replacing the previous 2010.5 version.  The well known BlueChart g2 and g2 Vision 2011 complement and enhance our marine and handheld product line with multiple user benefits.

These benefits include seamless data transition between zoom levels and harmonious transition across chart borders, fishing depth contours included in both BlueChart g2 and BlueChart g2 Vision formats, “Safety Shading” settings with a selection of up to five values, standardized depth contours and isobath areas and best of all -minimized chart discontinuities and clutter.

Garmin has combined the best available data from multiple sources to create the most accurate and detailed chart possible – benefits like safety shading help improve the vision below your vessel, seeking out the inevitable variances in depth.  Navigation mode now includes depth contours for 20m, 50m, 100m, 200m, 500m and 1000m with added landmark points and features, and improved density of spot soundings.

To ensure best compatibility, users can update their device firmware to the latest available at no cost on the Garmin website under the ‘Download’ section.  Garmin is no longer updating any of the traditional BlueChart products; however it will continue to offer the 2008.5 (July 2008) version of these products until 15th December 2011.

This update in mapping is a great addition to the network of marine electronics offered by Garmin, which is constantly evolving thanks to a fast pace in technological advancements. This year, Garmin customers can go fishing with our exciting new range of Echo fish finders, or sail to somewhere new with our AIS, VHF, radar and chartplotter solutions.  For more information on Garmin’s full line of marine products, please visit
