Cycling with friends: 3 ways to connect with your cycling community
Whether you’re looking for good old-fashioned competition or simply someone else to feel the burn with (they say misery loves company), the Garmin cycling lineup boasts several community-centered features to better connect your crew as you ride.
GroupRide
Want to feel even more connected to your cycling mates? Compatible Edge® bike computers come equipped with the GroupRide feature, which allows users to schedule a GroupRide, add a course (if they choose), and get a code that others can use to join the ride and course. Once you hit the road, you’ll be able to view the live locations of other riders and, when needed, you can chat with in-ride messaging1 and receive incident detection alerts if someone in the group triggers an alert2.
With GroupRide data comparisons1, you can see how your stats — including speed, heart rate, power, cadence and more — compare to the average of other riders in the group. You can even spice it up with in-ride climb leaderboards1 on compatible Edge computers, so you know where you stand and when to turn it up a notch. Plus, on those compatible Edge devices, battle it out for postride awards. After receiving an award, a little healthy trash talking is encouraged. You’ve certainly earned it. Here are just a few of the awards you can duke it out for with your friends:
- Speed Racer: For the rider with the highest max speed
- Lean and Mean: For the one with the highest average watts per kilogram
- Fashionably Late: For the last rider to join the GroupRide; let’s admit, there’s always that one friend who’s constantly running behind
Road Hazards
All it takes is one giant pothole to ruin a ride. With road hazards, you can see road hazard alerts1 reported by other users and report your own too — so any Garmin cyclist with a compatible Edge can anticipate that pothole or stalled vehicle.
This feature can support better overall awareness and understanding of a route or an unfamiliar road, contributing to a more connected and vigilant cycling community. How? You can assist fellow cyclists by marking hazards that you come across on the road.
Garmin Share
With Garmin Share, cyclists can easily share a variety of information with other nearby cyclists who are using a compatible Garmin Edge bike computer or Garmin smartwatch with the Garmin Connect™ app. Garmin Share allows you to send points of interest, a workout or a course to your friends with a tap of a button.
