  • interfaced to a Garmin GNS/GTN, dual annunciator, or single annunciator
  • not interfaced to a Garmin G500/G600 system
  • installed in a fixed-wing aircraft
  • configured for light aircraft category (15,000 lbs or less)

GDL 88 products interfaced to a Garmin G1000 with GDU software versions 14.XX and earlier are also affected.

DESCRIPTION:
Taxiing before the ADS-B GPS source has calculated an acceptable GPS position, will result in an incorrectly transmitted “airborne” Air/Ground status.

PILOT ACTION:
Make sure the GPS position source for ADS-B has calculated an acceptable GPS position before taxiing.

For GDL 84/88 installations that source GPS from a GNS or GTN, do the following:

  1. Go to the Satellite Status page/GPS Status page.
  2. Make sure the GPS Status is “3D NAV” or “3D DIFF NAV” before taxiing.

For GDL 88 products interfaced to a Garmin G1000, do the following:

  1. Go to the GPS Status page.
  2. Make sure the GPS Status is “3D NAV” or “3D DIFF NAV” before taxiing.

For GDL 84/88 with internal GPS installations that use a dual annunciator, do the following:

  1. Wait approximately 2.5 minutes after the unit is energized.
  2. Make sure the “NO POSN” annunciator is not annunciated before taxiing.

For GDL 84/88 with internal GPS installations that use a single annunciator, do the following:

  1. Wait approximately 2.5 minutes after the unit is energized.
  2. Make sure the “ADS-B” annunciator is solidly lit (not flashing) before taxiing.
