Q: Do I have to have an HR degree to work in the Human Resources Department?
A: No, you do not have to have an HR degree, but we do require a bachelor’s degree.
Q: What roles are included in Administration?
A: Garmin’s Administration includes our CEO, COO, president, vice presidents and directors of each division, as well as their executive assistants, commodity specialists and corporate travel coordinators.
Q: How often do you have openings in Administration?
A: This is an area with very little turnover; therefore, we rarely have openings in Administration. If we do have an opening, we normally promote from within; however, occasionally, we do hire externally.
Q: How large is the HR Dept?
A: We have around 30 associates in HR, including recruiters, benefits, training and payroll.
Q: What is the breakdown of the department?
A: There are several teams including: 2 for recruiting (Engineering/IT and Legal; Operations and Marketing) and 1 for benefits, training, HRIS and special projects and payroll.
Q: Is Payroll included in HR or Finance?
A: Payroll is part of the HR department.
Q: I heard Garmin has a Resource Library for its associates. What does that mean?
A: We have a library in the HR Department where associates can check out various units (nüvi, Approach, Colorado, eTrex, Edge, etc.), videos/DVDs or books (leadership, time management, training, etc.). Associates also can purchase tumblers, mugs and movie tickets, among other items.
Q: I heard Garmin associates receive a lot of discounts at nearby amenities. How do I get those coupons?
A: We have a discount counter in the HR Department that offers a variety of coupons and discounts for Garmin associates.
