ActiveRouting is a groundbreaking technology which is built into some of Garmin's latest recreational European map updates and devices. ActiveRouting is a "first of its kind" functionality in the field of recreational maps, which has the ability to tailor your route planning for specific outdoor activities like walking, hiking, mountaineering, cycling or mountain biking.

Based on the profile you choose via your PC or GPS device the feature recommends a personalized route which additionally can be tailored to different levels of ability and difficulty. The updated high quality topographic mapping products where ActiveRouting is included provide helpful touristic data and route information like cycling route networks and popular hiking trails. In connection with the ActiveRouting functionalities this offers tailored and innovative routing for easy tour planning.

What is ActiveRouting?

ActiveRouting is an innovative package of features built into the new TOPO Austria v3, Garmin TOPO Germany 2012 Pro, TOPO France v3 PRO, TrekMap Italia v3 Pro and TransAlpin 2012 Pro maps. These features enable you to tailor routes to match specific outdoor activities.

What outdoor activities does ActiveRouting cover?

The current outdoor activities available are walking, hiking, mountaineering, road cycling, tour cycling and mountain biking.

What will I specifically be able to do with ActiveRouting?

• Activity-specific outdoor routing: choose specific routing profiles for easy tour planning in BaseCamp and on your GPS device and differentiate between pedestrian and cycling activities.
• Named trail routing: navigate on dedicated named biking and hiking routes.
• Activity-specific map display: shows special routes or information depending on the activity you have chosen.

With Garmin ActiveRouting, simply select which outdoor profile suits you and the route will be optimised for your chosen activity. If you decide to walk, a simple, relatively-flat route will be calculated, while if you want to hike or mountaineer, a steeper and more challenging path will be drawn. When cycling, you will be able to select road cycling, tour cycling or mountain biking for increasingly challenging trails. ActiveRouting does whatever you want to do, whenever you want to do it and comes packaged with the same high-quality Garmin topographic maps.

ActiveRouting does not only tailor your route to a specific activity, but also to your level of ability or difficulty of the track you choose. All you need to do is to select which outdoor profile suits you and the route will be optimized for the chosen activity. If you decide to walk an easy route that brings you quickly to your destination, a simple and relatively flat street route will be calculated. And if you want to hike or engage in mountaineering, a steeper and more challenging path will be offered to you. When cycling, you will be able to choose between road cycling, tour cycling and mountain biking for an increasing level of trail roughness. ActiveRouting is the first of its kind in the field of recreational maps for GPS devices and comes packaged with the usual high quality standard of the Garmin topographic maps.

Specific routing profiles can easily be planned in BaseCamp, Garmin's free online trip planning software, and on a compatible GPS device. ActiveRouting functionalities are fully supported by the Garmin Montana, GPSMap 62 and the Oregon x50 series.
