Garmin® Debuts the eTrex Venture®, eTrex Legend™
and eTrex Vista®
Built-in basemaps, city databases and bold colors give these
little navigators a whole new look both inside and out
Olathe, Kan. - Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd.
(Nasdaq: GRMN), a leading manufacturer of navigation, communication
and information electronics, announces three new members of the
extremely popular eTrex® family of GPS products introducing
the eTrex Venture, eTrex Legend, and the eTrex Vista.
These units join the eTrex line of products, which includes
the original eTrex and
the eTrex Summit®.
Like their predecessors, the eTrex Venture, Legend and Vista are
12 parallel channel GPS receivers; packaged in waterproof cases,
they weigh a mere 5.3 ounces and measure just four inches high.
All three units have a new rocker switch on the front of the unit,
which allows for quick and accurate panning, as well as selection
and enter functions. The units also boast a higher resolution
display with 160x288 pixels. Most of the other new features can
be found on the inside of each unit.
"Garmin has been delighted with the positive response to
both the eTrex and the eTrex Summit," said Gary Kelley, director
of marketing, Garmin International. "Now we've taken
two great units and improved upon them by adding capabilities
that will give our customers more choices and various price points.
Whether you want a basemap, a compass, a barometric altimeter
or just a basic GPS unit, you will find what youre looking
for in the eTrex line."
The eTrex Venture offers a worldwide database of cities
and increased internal memory. The memory capacity of one megabyte
allows the eTrex Venture to accept downloaded information from
Garmin's new MapSource® Points of Interests CD-ROM.
The CD enables users to download locations such as restaurants,
hotels, shopping and entertainment. Once the information is loaded
into the unit, you can make a selection and telephone and address
information for a particular point of interest will appear on
the screen. The CD also includes marine data such as lights, buoys,
wrecks and obstructions. The eTrex Venture comes housed in a stylish,
translucent green case.
With the eTrex Legend, Garmin has loaded a full basemap
of North and South America into one small unit. The basemap contains
lakes, rivers, cities, interstates, national and state highways,
railroads and coastlines. The eTrex Legend is also equipped with
additional memory totaling eight megabytes. The added memory allows
the eTrex Legend to accept downloaded map data from Garmin's
entire line of MapSource CD-ROMs. The eTrex Legend comes in a
brightly-colored translucent blue case that really makes the unit
stand out.
The eTrex Vista combines a basemap of North and South
America, with a barometric altimeter and electronic compass. The
compass provides bearing information while youre standing
still and the altimeter determines your precise altitude. The
eTrex Vista also boasts an internal memory capacity of eight megabytes,
which allows it to accept downloaded mapping data from Garmin's
MapSource CD-ROMs. A silver case gives this unit a high-tech look.
