Ford’s Dealerships in Germany Select Garmin’s StreetPilot
OLATHE, Kan./December 1, 2005/PR Newswire — Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today announced Ford’s automotive dealerships in Germany now offer all customers the opportunity to purchase a Garmin StreetPilot i3, StreetPilot c310, or StreetPilot c330 directly from the dealership. Ford plans to offer additional StreetPilot products in the future.
“This announcement is one of our newest European automotive partnerships, and is yet another example of our expanding presence in Europe,” said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s vice president of marketing. “Garmin products are highly sought after in Europe because they are easy to use, require no installation, and allow drivers to find their destination quickly and hassle-free.”
“‘We are happy that Ford, one of the world’s largest automobile manufacturers, has selected Garmin as one of their GPS providers,” said Susanne Crefeld, Director Sales & Marketing at GPS GmbH in Gräfelfing, the German Garmin exclusive distributor. “Mobile navigation systems are highly sought after, and this agreement marks the first time Ford dealers can offer customers a Garmin GPS for their navigation solution.”
Garmin’s StreetPilot series provides portable, in-car navigation that is simple for anyone to use directly out-of-the-box. After selecting a destination from the touch screen (StreetPilot c-series) or scroll wheel (StreetPilot i-series), the unit will guide the user to their destination through voice prompted directions and a three-dimensional, moving map. If the driver misses a turn, the StreetPilot automatically calculates a new route to the destination. The StreetPilot may be mounted very quickly to an automobile’s windshield by a suction-mount cradle. In addition to regional detailed maps included with the unit, StreetPilots are equipped with a basemap of Europe, the Near East and Africa. Map data is provided by NAVTEQ™ – a world leader in premium-quality mapping.
