Garmin® goes the distance with truck navigation
Sydney, Australia, 07 April 2010 – Truck drivers can finally rely on a portable navigation device
especially designed for their needs with Garmin’s new nüvi® 465T. With features specifically
designed to support truck drivers, the nüvi 465T brings Garmin’s industry-leading engineering
together with Navteq mapping data, making this a must-have practical tool for truckers on the
road.
This truck navigator supports multiple truck profiles and features advanced routing and guidance
to support truck-related road restrictions such as height, width, length, weight and hazardous
materials. Users can easily enter the truck’s dimensions and load restrictions and the nüvi 465T
will adjust routes based on the customised truck profile and map data available to best meet the
specified requirements.
“Garmin is excited to offer its first truck navigation product to the Australian market, and we’re
confident that the nüvi 465T will change the way truck drivers navigate on the road,” said Matt
DeMoss, Sales and Marketing Manager Garmin Australasia. “Whether it’s helping to avoid a truck
restricted route or avoiding traffic, this nüvi will reduce the stress on truck drivers, helping them to
reach their destination effortlessly.”
The nüvi 465T also comes standard with Suna lifetime traffic alerts which will notify drivers of
traffic delays and road construction so they can detour around the incident. This one-of-a-kind
nüvi will also display warning information of upcoming road conditions to help aid driver
awareness of possible truck hazards along the route such as sharp curves, steep gradients, road
narrows and more.
For a clear picture of the road ahead, lane assist will guide users to the proper lane for complex
highway interchanges. With multiple-point routing, the nüvi will even calculate a more efficient
route between multiple stops. At any time, drivers can also access the “where am I?” feature, and the nüvi 465T will display, fuel stations, nearest address and intersection, closest hospitals, and
police stations.
The nüvi 465T features a 4.3” high-resolution touch screen display that is easily read from the
driver’s seat of a long-haul vehicle. Preloaded with detailed, street-level maps of Australia, the
nüvi 465T offers a three-dimensional mapping perspective, or a 2-D overhead view, and displays
speed limits for most major roadways. The nüvi 465T speaks street names so drivers will receive
turn-by-turn, voice prompted directions, such as “turn right on Main Street.” For hands-free calling,
the 465T also features Bluetooth for hands free calling and Points of Interest dialing.
The nüvi 465T has a recommended retail price of $599 and is expected to be available from June
2010. The new device will also be on show at the Garmin and Navteq Business Lounge at the
2010 Australian Trucking Convention, 07-10 April, Gold Coast Convention Centre.
Notes to editors
Lifetime traffic alerts extend for the useful life of the nüvi unit or as long as Garmin receives traffic
data from its traffic supplier, whichever is shorter. Limitations may exist in the map data such that
vehicle height/clearance, length and weight may not be accounted for in all route suggestions.
