Sydney, November 2009; the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced its next generation in large-format multi-function displays – the GPSMAP® 6000 and GPSMAP 7000 series with Garmin G Motion technology that represents a graphic breakthrough in speed, smoothness and clarity. Delivering ultra-smooth map panning and zooming with virtually seamless graphical updating in all dimensions, these new chartplotters also feature an unmatched low-level backlight display that dims to 0.5 nits, and a backlit keypad for use in low-light conditions, without compromising vision.
“The evolution of marine navigation continues with these new top-of-the-line network chartplotters that feature the smoothest, most detail-rich displays in Garmin’s chartplotter lineup,” said Matt DeMoss, Garmin Australasia’s National Sales and Marketing Manager. “Utilising Garmin’s G Motion technology, we’re setting the new standard in speed in a self-contained unit – it’s some of the most stunning marine cartographic technology you’ve ever seen in this class of equipment.”
The GPSMAP 7015 offers a huge 15-inch diagonal XGA (1024 x 768 pixel) sunlight readable touchscreen display with an enhanced worldwide satellite imagery basemap. The GPSMAP 7015 has a PC monitor input, so you can use it for display of digital presentations, internet browsers, or other computer applications. In addition, it offers four composite video inputs for multimedia use. Mariners can also opt for the same XGA resolution in a 12-inch diagonal screen configuration with the GPSMAP 7012 with a worldwide basemap. Both models are compatible with an optional wireless remote and a wireless mouse for additional flexibility.
The GPSMAP 6012 features a traditional soft-key interface with an alphanumeric keypad and a 12-inch diagonal XGA (1024 x 768 pixel) sunlight readable display. Within this family, Garmin offers the GPSMAP 6012 with an enhanced worldwide satellite imagery basemap. The GPSMAP 6008 offers an 8-inch VGA (640 x 480) sunlight readable display with a soft-key interface with an enhanced worldwide satellite imagery basemap to enhance the standard vector chart format. The models in the GPSMAP 6000 series are all compatible with an optional wireless remote.
The multi-function displays in the GPSMAP 6000 and 7000 series also offer expanded “plug-and-play” access to onboard sensors, with NMEA 2000 and Garmin Marine Network connectivity that make it easy to access and control a whole array of network assets from any compatible plotter on your boat including, autopilot and engine sensors, VHF radios, radar, sonar, AIS traffic monitoring, and more. For maximum expandability, these new units have three built-in network ports, four NMEA 0183 inputs, two NMEA 0183 outputs, one NMEA 2000 port, two video inputs, and one PC monitor video output.
For superior situational awareness, optional BlueChart® g2 Vision cartography is a must with the new GPSMAP 6000 and 7000 units to navigate with a clear moving-map representation of the boat’s position. In addition to high-res satellite imagery, g2 Vision features true “mariner’s eye view” above water or a “fish eye” underwater perspective – both in three dimensions. The Auto Guidance technology found in BlueChart g2 Vision suggests the best routes to follow.
The GPSMAP 6000 and GPSMAP 7000 family of MFDs will be available in February 2010. For additional information visit www.garmin.com.au.
