Garmin's iQue™ 3600 Enhanced by Third-Party
Software Applications
OLATHE, Kan./PR Newswire — Garmin® International Inc.,
a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today showcased the
third-party applications that will initially be available
on the company’s award-winning GPS-enabled PDA, the
iQue 3600. The
applications suite takes the iQue 3600 beyond an organizer/navigator
to a full-life PDA. Applications developers include LinksPoint,
Infinity Softworks, Astraware, DataViz, SplashData and Vindigo®.
"This software bundle will bolster an already robust
set of applications that run on the Palm OS 5 platform and
deliver even greater utility to the iQue 3600," said
Guy Waitley, Garmin's associate director of business
development. "Our SDK will also enable developers to
create PDA applications that take advantage of our unique
GPS capabilities and other leading functions on our handheld."
Garmin's iQue 3600 will be the first PDA to incorporate
StarCaddy, a leading handheld golf application from LinksPoint
Inc. Using the iQue's integrated GPS capabilities, StarCaddy
pinpoints a golfer’s exact position on an electronic
map of the course and provides accurate distance to the center
of the green and other course features like doglegs, sandtraps
and water. StarCaddy helps golfers pick the right club, avoid
hazards and improve their overall game. Users will be able
to download a free trial StarCaddy map for use on a course
of their choice from the StarCaddy directory.
Business users will appreciate the full version of powerOne™
Personal calculator from Infinity Softworks Inc. This application
delivers extra power for easy calculating of financial, investment,
health/fitness, shopping and other math and business functions
— as well as the ability to import skins.
The iQue 3600 provides a wide variety of PDA games from Astraware
Ltd., maker of the best-selling handheld games on the market.
Users will have access to demonstration versions of Astraware’s
most popular titles, including Bejeweled, Seven Seas, Alchemy,
Mummy Maze, Atomica, Text Twist and Mahjongg.
For the business professional, the Garmin iQue 3600 also offers
a trial version of Documents To Go Standard Edition from DataViz
Inc. — an application that allows the user to create
and edit Word and Excel documents on their PDA, creating a
power office solution for workers on the go.
The iQue 3600 features a trial version of the leading image
viewer for Palm OS handhelds — SplashPhoto from SplashData
Inc. SplashPhoto is a fun, easy-to-use, high-quality application
that has been specifically designed to take advantage of the
iQue 3600's high-resolution, 320x480 display and ARM
processor for fast upload of such intensive processor tasks
as JPEG decoding.
When going out for a night on the town, users will appreciate
a trial version of Vindigo 2.0 from Vindigo Inc., which combines
the features of an entertainment guide and yellow pages directory.
With Vindigo 2.0 onboard, users can find the best restaurants,
theaters and nightclubs at the touch of a button. The application
comes complete with maps and directions to any listing.
The application-rich iQue 3600 is expected to be available
in the second quarter of 2003. It has earned a "Best
of Innovations" award in the Mobile Office category at
the 2003 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
